Navigation service on Lake Trasimeno

Discover Lake Trasimeno’s Isola Maggiore and Isola Polvese with the Busitalia boat service

Thanks to the boat service on Lake Trasimeno, you can easily reach all the islands with Busitalia: during the summer season, depart from the main towns to reach Isola Maggiore and Isola Polvese.

What to see on Lake Trasimeno

Isola Maggiore is the main island on Lake Trasimeno and the only one inhabited all year round. Once you disembark, you can visit the town centre with its medieval architecture and most important monuments: the Church of San Salvatore that safeguards a painting by Sano di Pietro, the house of the Capitano del Popolo and the Gothic-style church dedicated to San Michele Arcangelo, with frescoes dating from the 12th to 14th centuries. Also worth a visit are the Lace Museum and the places where Saint Francis of Assisi lived, in particular the Chapel that preserves the bed on which he slept.

Isola Polvese, the largest island, is most famous for being part of the Lake Trasimeno Fauna Oasis. This location offers more than just walks and breathtaking landscapes. A short stroll from the port is the 15th-century Rocca, whose perimeter walls surround the courtyard used as a theatre for open-air performances. Following the path to the left of the castle, you will reach the Aquatic Plants Garden, designed in the 1950s by one of Italy’s leading landscape architects, Pietro Porcinai, and home to a wide variety of both aquatic and Mediterranean plants. The walk concludes at the island’s beach, equipped with a playground and volleyball courts, ideal for young and old.

Fare, transport conditions and ticket offices

TRANSPORTING BICYCLES
Every day with the exception of national holiday, depending on the type of boat in service, on traffic and weather conditions.

The bicycle is considered as hand baggage of the passenger, who must arrange for loading, unloading and care of the vehicle, exempting BUSITALIA of any responsibility.

Bicycle transport on the Trasimeno Lake Navigation Service requires the payment of an extra fare for each bycicle in addition to the cost of the individual’s ticket. The extra fare is non-transferable and is valid all day long on every line that performs the bicycle transport.

ANIMALS ON BOARD
Dogs taller than 35 cm at the withers must always have muzzle and leash, with payment of the special daily extra charge; those which are shorter must be placed inside a pet carrier or on your lap.

In any case, they must not disturb other passengers or put them in danger. If the boat is overcrowded, the Captain may suspend the transport of animals.
