Where can I purchase the CONTACTLESS ticket using my credit or debit card?

Contactless payment by bank card will be possible exclusively on Busitalia Veneto urban buses and trams that have displayed this external sticker:

and this sticker on the reader:

Which tickets can I purchase using my CONTACTLESS credit or debit card?

The ticket that can be purchased is the TU1 ordinary urban ticket for Padua, costing € 1,70, valid for 90 minutes for travel within the Orange Zone (Municipality of Padua). The ticket is digital and valid from the moment of purchase. To travel beyond the borders of the Orange Zone (Blue Zone), it is necessary to obtain a TU2 or suburban ticket using the other available purchase methods.

Are there any fees for tickets purchased on board?

No, there are no fees or extra costs. The fare is the same as paper tickets. You only pay the cheapest fare and you also avoid queues to buy the ticket.

Is a ticket issued when purchasing with CONTACTLESS?

No physical/paper tickets are issued. The CONTACTLESS ticket purchased is a digital ticket generated after placing the payment card near the boarding and alighting doors of the buses.

If, when the payment card is placed on the reader, a message confirming the successful completion of the operation is received - "Valid ticket" accompanied by a green light - this means that the purchase was successful and that the ticket is valid.

By accessing the portal and registering the payment card used, you can view your TAPs in real time and, in the following days, the history of tickets purchased on board.

If multiple trips are made within the same day, after 90 minutes from each tap, it is necessary to repeat the operation and bring the card close to the reader the next time you board: at the end of the day the system will charge the most convenient fare for the user based on the number of trips taken. If two or more taps are made within 90 minutes of the first, the system will still only charge one ticket.

How is the ticket cost calculated?

The contactless system applies the most convenient fare.

If you only make one trip, the system applies the cost of the ordinary ticket at the fare of € 1,70.

If you make multiple trips during the duration of the ticket, the system always applies the ordinary fare and nothing more. Example: if you make multiple trips in urban areas within 90 minutes, the system applies the fare of € 1,70. This is because the fare system allows you to make multiple trips with the same ticket, within the duration of 90 minutes.

If you make multiple trips during the day, from the third trip onwards the system, instead of applying a total of 3 ordinary tickets, triggers the daily fare, which is more convenient for the user.

But be careful! You must always use the same payment card.

Example 1
You get on a bus at 10:00 and then take another at 10:30: simply bring your card to the reader only on the first bus, at the end of the day your credit or debit card will be charged with a single 90-minute ticket for an amount of € 1,70.

Example 2
You get on a bus at 10:00 and then take another at 12:00: in both cases you will have to hold the card close to the reader, at the end of the day your credit or debit card will be charged for two 90-minute tickets for an amount of € 3,40.

Example 3
You get on a bus at 10:00, then you take another one at 12:00, then from 13:31 to midnight you take as many trips as you want: you will have to hold the card close to the reader each time, at the end of the day, regardless of how many further trips you have made throughout the day, your credit or debit card will be charged for a single daily ticket for an amount of € 4,70.

Is the cheapest fare also applied on a weekly and monthly basis?

No. At the moment, the system calculates the best fare on a daily basis, by midnight of the same day.

When I place the payment card on the reader, the green LED does not light up, but the blue light remains. What does this mean?

The purchase was not successful and the most frequent causes are that the payment card used is not a "contactless" card, it is not one of the enabled circuits (which are currently Mastercard, Visa and American Express); in the case of a rechargeable card, check whether there is enough credit to purchase the ticket. If problems persist, contact your bank, and explain the problem. Meanwhile, in order to travel you will need to obtain a valid ticket promptly.

When I place the payment card on the reader, the red LED lights up. What does this mean?

The purchase was not successful and the most frequent causes are that the card has expired, blocked or, in the case of a rechargeable card, does not have enough remaining credit. If problems persist, contact your bank and explain the problem. Meanwhile, in order to travel you will need to obtain a valid ticket promptly.

No light is lit on the on-board reader. What does this mean?

If no light is lit on the reader, it means that the reader is not working and therefore it will not be possible to make any contactless purchases: check if the other reader on board the bus is working. Otherwise, you can purchase the ticket from "Busitalia Veneto" app or from the driver.

Are there any tips I can follow?

Avoid placing several cards or payment devices close to the reader at the same time, as errors may be generated.

If I transfer to another bus or tram, do I still have to do another TAP even if I bought my ticket within the 90 minutes?

Yes, it is mandatory to validate again even if more than 90 minutes have not passed since the first TAP yet. Each TAP carried out within 90 minutes of the first validation does not involve the purchase of an additional ticket and therefore does not entail any additional payment.

Do I have to register before I can buy with CONTACTLESS?

No, this is not necessary. Registration on the portal is not mandatory, but it is useful to check tickets purchased and payments made.

How can I check my payments?

On the portal the customer can register by filling in the form and registering the payment card used for real time viewing of each TAP ticket purchased aboard the vehicles and, subsequently, the tickets purchased and the relative price.

Registration must be done using the same card used to pay for the journey. For reasons not dependent on Busitalia Veneto but on the rules of banking circuits, at this time, this function is only available for credit cards and not ATM cards or other contactless devices.

I have registered but cannot connect my valid payment card: why?

Registration through the portal can be done at any time, but pairing your payment card is only possible after the first TAP aboard the bus.

Who guarantees the security of the payment?

We would like to point out that no data relating to your bank card is stored by Busitalia Veneto. This new service meets the security standards required for any contactless payment transaction. Contact your bank for any information on enabling and using your card.

Can I use my card to let other people who are travelling with me through?

No. Each card allows only one passenger to travel at a time.

When is the travel payment charged?

The cost of the ticket is debited approximately two to three working days after the date of travel and can be recognised through the reason for the transaction, referred to as “Busitalia Veneto Spa”.

Is it possible to receive a debit on a day on which I did not make a trip?

Yes, it is normal. Charges are made a few days after the trip and the time depends on the bank circuits.

Why don't I see the ticket debit in real time on my bank's app?

It depends on the type of card and bank management. The ticket is issued in real time, but the charge is made later and aggregated per day (for example, if you have made two journeys more than 90 minutes apart, you will be charged two tickets for a total of € 3,40).

Why does my card not work?

There may be different reasons due to the banking circuit, the main ones are listed below:

  • the card does not belong to one of the approved circuits;
  • the card belongs to one of the approved circuits but it is not contactless;
  • the card is contactless but has never before been used for a retail payment at a merchant (CONTACTLESS function has not been activated);
  • the card is in default (the current account does not have a sufficient balance, is blocked or other reasons);
  • the card has expired;
  • if it is a virtual card, e.g. on smartphones, you need to make sure you have activated NFC on your device.

In any case, we suggest that you contact your bank and tell them about this problem.

Contactless cards have this symbol:

What happens if I use the service with a card whose credit is insufficient for the purchase?

When it has not been possible to correctly charge the due amount to the card (e.g. insufficient credit), the card is automatically included in the list of disabled cards (black list) and from that moment it can no longer be used to access the service, until the balance is paid of the amount due.

The inclusion in the black list of disabled cards is a temporary condition which only concerns the use of the CONTACTLESS payment system on board and must not be confused with blocking the card, which instead continues to be active for normal uses.

Does payment work with Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and other banking services on telephones, watches, or other devices?

Yes. The system works with all devices where a card belonging to the enabled circuits has been memorised.

ATTENTION
Physical card and digital card are not interchangeable during the trip. You must always use the same device (referring to the same card) if you want to have the cheapest rate.

What happens if during the trip I use one card first and then use another?

You will be charged 2 tickets, because the system deducts one ticket for each card or digital payment device.

Always use the same device for the same trip: same physical card, same phone or same smartwatch.

What do I do if a controller asks me for a ticket?

Simply show the card or device you have held close to the reader, or communicate to the controller the last 4 digits of the bank card used for payment: this is sufficient for the controller to check that the tapping has taken place.

How can I be sure that the confidentiality of data is not violated when checking the card?

The controllers' devices cannot access the bank security data on the card. In any case, the user must provide only the last 4 digits of the card. Our staff are not authorised to request further information for the protection of users.

Is there a risk of the card being cloned?

No. Readers are certified by the banks that issue their cards. The Busitalia Veneto Contactless service meets the security standards required for any contactless payment transaction.

How can I be sure that the privacy of my data will not be violated by using the card?

In no way Busitalia Veneto stores the data of the card or its holder.
